Neuschwanstein is the most visited castle in Germany. This is located in the south of the country on the border with Austria. It is very well known both for its architecture and for its extraordinary location. Indeed, the castle is perched on a rocky outcrop more than 200 meters high and is surrounded by a magnificent landscape. The panorama around this castle is thus extraordinary .
The history of Neuschwanstein
Wishing to mix the neo-Gothic architectural style and the medieval style after a trip to France, King Ludwig II of Bavaria had this castle built. This is how the castle came into existence in 1884. At the location of the current castle there were previously two castles, namely Vorderhohenschwangau and Hinterhohenschwangau. To be able to build a residence of such magnitude, the king dynamited the rock on which the fortified castles were located and thus lost eight meters in height. Two years after taking up residence in his castle, the king died. Now the castle is open to the public and welcomes more than a million tourists from all over the world each year. The irony is that Ludwig II of Bavaria was very lonely and wanted to get away from the crowds in his castle.
